Our founder, Kim Harper, fell in love with oak in his days working as an antique furniture restorer. Crafting each curve meant exercising the art of imperfection. And unfolding in the wood grain, was a unique story. In just the same way, Kim’s goal was for our engineered oak floors to have their own signature.

Kim Harper
Founder
Kim Harper fell in love with the enduring nature of oak over 40 years ago restoring antique furniture, and has since remained at the intersection of architecture, interiors, and furniture as the pioneer of engineered timber flooring in Australia. Having introduced the product to the local market more than two decades ago, Kim established Royal Oak Floors with a singular vision: to evoke sensation through surfaces. His enduring commitment to quality and innovation has set the industry benchmark and continues to influence the evolution of Australian design.
Byron Smith
Managing Director
Byron Smith's journey with Royal Oak Floors began over 15 years ago as a Sales Consultant. After a period of travel and diverse work experience, including management roles in flooring and laminates, plus a hospitality venture, Byron returned to Royal Oak Floors as Partner in 2017 before assuming the role of Managing Director in 2023. Byron is particularly proud of building a team that reflects the company's core values and delivers exceptional customer experiences. He remains committed to inspiring Australian design through evolving product offerings and fostering meaningful connections with clients, recognising the deep emotional investment they place in their projects.
