Engineered oak is real European oak bonded to a high-strength plywood core. It looks and feels like solid timber, with better stability across Australian conditions, including underfloor heating and concrete substrates. Our boards use a rough-sawn lamella (not rotary cut), which produces a stronger, more attractive surface. Every board is FSC-certified, pre-finished, and tongue-and-groove for straightforward installation.

Our engineered oak floorboards are fit for royalty, and crafted for Australian spaces, lifestyles, and sensibilities. Stylish and beautiful, practical and durable, oak floors are timeless in their elegance and enduring in their nature.
Match Your Floor to Your Space
Cool-toned engineered oak flooring creates a formal feeling in the room, while warmer tones give you a feeling of comfort and cosiness. Paler colours will give your room a feeling of airiness and create a brighter room.
If you don’t get much natural light in the room, you may consider lighter-toned oak wood flooring to make your room feel larger.
Do you want your engineered oak timber flooring to match the other flooring in the home? Or your furniture? Having the same flooring throughout your home can increase the feeling of spaciousness.

Pick Your Floorboard Grade
Mixed grade is our standard range and contains larger and more frequent knot content compared to the Premium grade. It contains some colour variation and variable grain pattern.
Feature grade typically exhibits much more frequent knots and also larger knots. They also feature character such as cracks (filled), sapwood, variation in grain pattern and colour. The most character filled flooring we carry.
Premium grade is considered a cleaner look with minimal knots & variation. It is the highest grade of flooring we provide. Note that this is not a standard stock item.

Our founder, Kim Harper, fell in love with oak in his days working as an antique furniture restorer. Crafting each curve meant exercising the art of imperfection. And unfolding in the wood grain, was a unique story. In just the same way, Kim’s goal was for our engineered oak floors to have their own signature.
No two oak floors are the same, like no two stories are the same. And stories are what make a house a home, and what gives meaning to a space. Every ounce of our effort goes towards providing your space with the foundations of a life well lived.
What is engineered oak floorboards?
Engineered flooring is real hardwood bonded to a multi-layer plywood core to create a strong, stable board. At Royal Oak Floors, our boards are made using sustainably sourced European oak from FSC-certified forests. The lamella (top layer) is rough-sawn, which produces a stronger, higher-quality surface compared to rotary-cut alternatives. Available in 4mm and 6mm thicknesses, cold-press bonded to plywood, then sanded, stained, and finished with lacquer or oil.
How does engineered oak compare to solid timber?
Solid timber is a single piece of wood. Engineered oak has a real oak surface over a plywood base. The practical difference is that engineered boards are more dimensionally stable, less prone to cupping or gapping, and can be installed over underfloor heating or directly onto concrete. The surface you walk on, see, and touch is the same real European oak.
Is engineered oak suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes. The multi-layer construction handles heat and moisture changes better than solid timber. Our boards are designed for Australian conditions, including underfloor heating systems.
Should I choose lacquered or oiled flooring?
Both are beautiful. Lacquered floors are harder wearing and lower maintenance, which makes them the better choice for most Australian homes. Oil finishes have a more natural, matte appearance but need periodic re-oiling. We recommend lacquer for most residential projects and can talk you through the options during a consultation.
Can engineered oak floors be resanded?
Yes. Our boards have a 6mm oak top layer (4mm on our 15mm boards), which can be resanded and refinished multiple times over the life of the floor.
How do I maintain engineered oak floors?
Regular sweeping or vacuuming, and occasional mopping with a damp (not wet) cloth. Lacquered floors need very little beyond that. We provide full aftercare guidance with every floor.
